7th March 2012

  • The President was in the chair.
  • Steve read the first part of the Object of Rotary.
  • The President welcomed guests; Katherine Riding of Canterbury Index introduced by Steve; Sarah Longstaff a Sociology student introduced by John; Peter Simpson of the Pilgrim’s Hospice introduced by Steve; Charlie Mount from St Edmunds and the chair and vice chair of their Interact Club; and the speaker Ed Condry. Jarle brought greetings from the Isle of Thanet Sunrise Club.
  • The President thanked all those involved in the successful Wine & Wisdom evening on Saturday 3rd March. John reported that the event raised a profit of £570.
  • Ed Condry spoke about his plans, together with other cyclists, to ride from Olympia to the Olympic Stadium at the end of June. The 1500 mile ride will take two weeks and will be raising funds for the Kent Area Ambulance Trust. They will be joined in Lucerne by another 20 cyclists so about 38 should arrive at the Olympic Stadium.
  • Jim proposed the Vote of Thanks to the speaker.

  1. The President was in the chair.
  2. Richard read the Four Way test.
  3. Lucy brought greetings from the Amiens Cathédrale club.
  4. Lucy reported on the recent meetings with Canterbury Rotaract Club. Their new venue is the New Inn in Havelock Street.
  5. John reported that The Red Lion at Bridge was prepared to do another Shelterbox dinner, although someone else will need to lead, as he will be away.
  6. Breakout meetings of the committees for the upcoming events were held.
  7. There will be no morning meeting on 29th February, as it is a fifth Wednesday.

  • Dave read the third part of the Object of Rotary.
  • The President welcomed the guests; Nick Rooke of Amos Dawton & Finn invited by Richard; Helga Clarke invited by Dave; the Speaker Rachel van Hoven of Porchlight; and Rotaracters Becky, Mark, Danielle, Lucy and Piers.
  • Notices:
    a.    Lucy informed Sunrisers of an invitation the Club had received from the Amiens Cathédrale Club for 18th February. She would be representing Sunrise.
    b.    Dave reminded Sunrisers of the Wine & Wisdom event on 4th March.
  • Rachel van Hoven gave a presentation about the work of Porchlight.
  • Martin Warren proposed the Vote of thanks.

  3. Rob read the second part of the Object of Rotary.
  4. Sunriser Ese gave the members an interesting introductory talk about herself.

1. The President Elect was in the chair.
2. Jarle read the first part of the Object of Rotary.
3. Rob announced the great news that the Club was successful in both it’s application for grants this year. The Club will receive $1,000 each for Bikes4Africa and Dogs for the Hard of Hearing. The Club has to match fund the Grants.
4. The rest of the meeting took the form of informal breakout sessions.
